What is a farm share?
A farm share program is an opportunity to experience local, seasonal vegetables (all fresh and yummy!) each week and to support local farmers! Best of all, through a farm share, we are all building deeper connections to our communities and the land.
What makes your farm share unique?
We are really proud of the produce we raise and believe our secret (not so secret) ingredient is our youth. LEAF is powered by young leaders who care deeply about the food they grow, the people they serve and the land they cultivate. With your purchase of a LEAF farm share, you support the empowerment of young people in your community! We are also proud of the partnerships we have with some of our favorite sustainable farms in the region and by opting into the LEAF farm share, you have convenient weekly access to their products as well.
Is everything grown at LEAF organic? What about your partner farms?
While LEAF is not currently certified organic, we follow all the growing practices associated with organic production and management of our land. We carefully selected our partner farms for their sustainable practices and each of our partner farms follows the best practices of sustainability in their field. We are always happy to share more about this and will highlight these practices in partner farm profiles in our weekly farm share newsletter.
Can I purchase more than one partner farm add-on?
Yes! We are really excited about delicious local food products and hope to share that joy with you. Feel free to add as many partner farms products as you would like.
Can we choose which vegetables are in the farm share?
We think part of the fun of a farm share is the excitement of seeing what is in your share each week as the season progresses - peak strawberries & spinach in June, perfectly field ripened heirloom tomatoes in August, freshly dug sweet potatoes in September. While you can’t choose what is in your share, we do our best to make sure everyone gets a diverse share of attractive vegetables. Each year, we survey our members to get feedback on favorite items and which ones they didn’t like as much - and adjust our crop plan based on this feedback. We think we’ve arrived at a nice blend of farm fresh seasonal items.
Where do I pick up my farm share/do you deliver?
We have pick-up locations in Carlisle, Camp Hill, Harrisburg, Landisburg and Mechanicsburg. You will choose your pick-up location upon checkout and receive an exact address. Pick-up on Mondays is for Carlisle from 4:30 - 8:30 pm and Landisburg from 4-8 pm. Pick up for Camp Hill, Harrisburg and Mechanicsburg is on Wednesdays from 4:30 - 8:30 pm. We are grateful to have so many supporters - because of the number of awesome farm share customers we are unable to deliver and ask that you choose the pick-up location most convenient for you.
What is the difference between a small and regular share?
The small share will have about 3 items each week, while the regular share will have approximately 6 items each week. For example:
Sample June Share:
Small Share: Lettuce Mix, Broccolini, Peas
Regular Share: Lettuce Mix, Broccolini, Peas, Arugula, Cucumber, Garlic Scapes
Sample August Share:
Small: Bell Peppers, Zucchini, & Green Beans
Regular: Bell Peppers, Zucchini, Green Beans, Heirloom Tomatoes, Swiss Chard, and Lettuce Mix
We recommend the small share for two people experimenting with incorporating more local produce in their diet. We recommend the regular share for two produce-lovers or families of three or more.
Do I have to buy a farm share for the whole season?
We will give preference to members ready to commit to the season because that is what works for the farm. If you cannot commit to a full season, feel free to find a buddy to share the harvest with!
What if I go on vacation or cannot pick up my share one week?
Not a problem! You have plenty of options here:
Gift your share to someone else that week - just give them the pick up details.
Let us know and we’ll happily donate your share to a family in need.
Give us a heads up and we’ll do our best to work with you and find a time to get your share to you.
What happens when I pick up my farm share?
You will get detailed instructions about your pick up location and time. Once you get there, you’ll find your share labeled with your name either in a cooler (small shares) or in a thermal box (large shares). Each week, you’ll bring back last week’s box and pick up your new one!
Can I visit the farm?
Yes, we love to have our members visit! We have on Open Farm Day in July and optional on-farm workshops and volunteer shifts.
Can I give the farm share as a gift?
Absolutely! If you have someone in mind, great! If you want to donate toward a discounted or free share for another family, we’ve got a list of folks we’d love to share the harvest with.
What would I do if I do not like a vegetable I get or have no idea what one is?
We’ve got you covered! Each week, we provide serving suggestions and tailored recipes for what’s in your share that week. After giving new items a try with us, if you find you really don’t like something, let us know through our surveys and feedback requests.
