Just like the rest of the world, we’ve been thinking a lot about climate change…
This February, our farm was lucky enough to attend the PASA Sustainable Agriculture Conference. There were so many different lessons that our crew tuned into during this event– one of our favorites being a “farmer panel” about climate change. Here are some highlights from the notes our crew reviewed:
Jeff Frank of Liberty Gardens
“There used to be one growing season… but now there’s two! Ideal growing seasons are in spring and fall while yields drop in summer”
Kirstie Jones of Pennypack Farm
“With climate change, there are less salad turnips and radishes while there are more carrots”
Trey Fleming of Two Gander Farm
“Nothing is worth proving that you're more acclimated to the heat: climate change is real and it hits you hard”
LEAF is actively using the knowledge we gain from our fellow farmers to introduce adaptations to our farm that will improve our climate resistance. Stay tuned to follow along with us as we explore the ins and outs of climate change!
